The March 9 issue follows through with two articles, one by Wallace and one on Wallace. On April 10th, The Pale King will come out in paperback with four previously unpublished scenes. After topping off the gas tank, I was headed down the freeway toward Skylight Books in Hollywood. I cannot say why I enjoy reading Wallace so much. The latest book I have read is by David Foster Wallace, called the Pale King. The details: three scenes of three pages each, and one scene that runs 14 pages. His death was a question mark, not the exclamation point of Hemingway's or the sad ellipse of Thompson's. I am the cataloger of David Foster Wallace's final work, The Pale King, and I'm here to tell you that in cases like these, the rules will only get you so far. Wallace's life ended with so little resolution. The 547-page book won't be published until April 15, but we'll line up a couple Pale King features to get you prepared. The preview, a collaboration between the Center and publisher Little, Brown and Company, includes a series of drafts of the “Author's Foreword,” which eventually became chapter nine of The Pale King.
